My Global Journey | June 6, 2026

Dear, Diary

I've been here for quite a while since someone found me. Days have passed too many for fingers to count—if only I had fingers and not just a disembodied head. I was left on a desk beside a whole bag of Frutos. The owner of this room must have a sweet tooth! Anyway, I sometimes gaze out the window of this room and wonder how a little guy like me even got here. My life started out deep underground as crude oil, which was pumped up and chemically processed into the synthetic polyester fabric and soft stuffing that make up my round-shaped body (or just the head). From there, I was manufactured in a busy factory in Chine under a partnership between Sanrio and Eikoh, where affordable labor allowed for me (and others like me) to be mass produced quickly. Sigh, I wonder where my fellow brothers ended up in... But thanks to the modern free trade policies, such as the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) , the Philippine customs office doesn't charge high tax just for me to cross the border! I was transported using a HUGE cargo ship across the seas to the Philippines so that a corporation could sell me for profit.

My Local Crime | June 10, 2026

Dear Diary,

I often try to stay positive, but sometimes I get terrified when thinking about what will happen to me when my human doesn't want me anymore. I was almost lost forever when I was accidentaly dropped in that train! Thankfully, I'm safe now. Still, if I get thrown in the trash, my plastic-based materials will surely be sitting in a landfill for centuries! This is just like the plot of Toy Story 3! Think of all the serious environmental harm I could cause just for existing. And then, as I slowly break down, I will leak toxic chemicals into the soil which will flow into the nearby waterways. Those toxins can be absorbed by the roots of crops and vegetables when famers pump this contaminated water, potentially destroying a community's food security. How I hope my new human never throws me out...

My Circular Rebirth | June 15, 2026

Dear Diary,

I don't want to be a just a piece of plastic contributing to more pollution; I dream of a circular rebirth. Instead of the destructive system that is linear economy where I am taken from beneath the earth, manufactured in a chinese factory, and thrown away to rot for many years, I wish I could belong to a close-loop of recycling. In this ideal future of mine, instead of heading to a dump, I would be gracefully dropped off at a specialized recycling hub where my synthetic components are properly separated. Well, thank the stars I don't have a brain or nerves or else I would be screaming from pain because THAT would be torture. Thankfully I am really just a toy and not alive... ANYWAY, my body parts will be melted back down into recycled polyester pellets, which is spun into brand-new polyester thread and stuffed into a fresh batch of plushies. All of that without needing new crude oil or releasing toxic chemicals into the soil via landfill! Achieving this will make my dream come true of fulfilling the SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action, to ensure that my soft and plushy self shall live the legacy of one that is about sustainability rather than ecological destruction of our planet! Hoorah!
